Kylie's 1st bus ride & full day of Kindergarten!

Today was quite a milestone. It marked Kylie's first full day of Kindergarten (9:05am-3:35pm!) and her first bus ride to school!

It was an exciting morning as Kylie had to be ready at the bus stop to be picked up at 8:45. Peyton & Mommy walked her to the stop at the end of our street and we were happy to find several other friends and their parents there too- we had made it to the right place! A few minutes later the school bus arrived and after letting all of the other friends climb on first & a good luck hug from Peyton, off went our baby to her very 1st day of Kindergarten! I'm not sure if I was just too nervous or just plain excited for Kylie because I managed to hold it together. I surprised myself since I was a blubbering mess just driving by parents with their kids getting on the buses the day before!

As Peyton and I walked home she kept saying "uh-oh" because sissy wasn't with us. We had a good day playing and doing things at home together but my mind was never far from wandering to how our little girl was doing handling such a big girl day! No need to fear Mommy. At 4:00 there was Kylie bounding down the steps of the school bus with a smile from ear to ear! She had had a fantastic 1st day of school and couldn't wait to tell us all about it. So that's just what we did as soon as we got home- over the classic after school snack- milk & cookies :).

Kylie's Kindergarten Orientation

Today was the first day of school for the 2009 school year at Gwendolyn Brooks Elementary School! But for Kindergarteners this meant their orientation to their new teacher, classroom and getting their things settled a bit.

Kylie enjoyed the hour of meeting Mrs. Porter and exploring her new home away from home for the next 8 months- Room #127! Her favorite part of the classroom was the play kitchen that she and Peyton enjoyed breaking in as the rest of the "Q-Z" last names in her class arrived for the session. Kylie was also a great helper putting all of her school supplies in the right bins and putting the rest of her things where they were to go.

As the kids quietly colored pictures set up for them at the tables, the Mommies & Daddies got a quick review of all of the information we would need to have a smooth start to the school year for our little ones. Lots of final details about what items were needed each day, communication processes, snack, lunch , walking/riding/busing transportation information, the class schedule...good thing Mommy had her listening ears on because we defiintely needed to have this all straight when we got back home!

After listening to Mrs. Porter read "Twas the Night before Kindergarten" and not wanting to leave after our session was over, I think it's safe to say that Kylie is just a little bit excited for her 1st full day of school tomorrow :)!

August 20, 2009

I feel as if we've been talking about this date for months and it's much anticipated arrival is just hours away...

Kylie's first day of Kindergarten!

Tis the season of school supplies, lunch menus & bus routes but for the first time we're in the middle of all of the action too! At this point I think Kylie's as ready as she's going to be for this new adventure and Mommy's ready (well maybe not READY) to see her little baby experience all that is headed her way in the coming months.

Tomorrow at 2pm is Kylie's scheduled time for us to head to room #127 to see her classroom, meet her new teacher Mrs. Porter, organize her supplies and get settled as much as we can in an hour!

We wish you the best of times in learning, making new friends and growing in the coming months of kindergarten Kylie! Let your star shine bright!

Kylie with the goody bag cousin Paige dropped off for her tonight. Thanks Paige! You made Kylie's special day tomorrow that much more special :).

Summer Memories Made

Summertime, Summertime, Sum, Sum, SUMMERTIME!

This post (quite lengthy in its entirety!) is to blog about some more of the fun things we did this summer (in no particular order) with a memory tagged to each! At times this summer felt a bit like a whirlwind of events, but with school starting in just a few days I'm glad we did all that we did because the season of fun in the sun is just too darn short!

*Navy Pier- Aka "Home of the Chicago Children's Museum"! My memory of this year's walk along the pier is how magical a place it really is. Even at such a young age I could tell that the girls could sense the excitement! The ferris wheel, the boats, the vendors, the music- it's just a great place where people from all over come to enjoy the fresh air and Chicago's skyline together!

*Train rides to the "Big City"- A train ride into the city is always an adventure when you have kids climbing aboard too! Despite having to sit still for anywhere from half an hour to over an hour, the girls LOVE riding the choo choo train. My memory from our rides this year is that it made another "first" for Peyton. We're so lucky to have a train line right next door for the girls to be able to learn and experience the fun of riding one and to have such adventures awaiting them at the end of each ride!

*Chicago Children's Museum - This was our second time visiting this museum and the memory I have is how much fun Peyton had doing the same things we remember Kylie doing there just a few years ago! Kylie also got to do a lot of things she was too little to do the first time around which is why every visit to this museum is always a new adventure!

*Naperville's Riverwalk- The place where great summer memories are bound to be made! From the walking trails to the bell tower, the duckies to the playground, the beach to the paddleboats, my fondest memory is that of big smiles & laughter on our many, many summer day visits here.

*2009 Taste of Chicago- The yummy, annual event we're still crazy enough to attend each year! It's what summer in Chicago is all about! From a sandwich at Ricobenes to chocolate covered fruit from Diane's, we always seem to pick the same treats and enjoy them even more each year. There's a tie for my fondest memory of this year's trip: how happy Kylie was to be able to ride the HUGE ferris wheel with Grandma B. and how much Peyton enjoyed sampling all of the fare!

*Brookfield Zoo- A tradition we're trying to keep "alive" each summer with this year's featured exhibit being "Dinosaurs Alive"! This year we visited during the free kids days celebrating the zoo's 75th anniversary with my good friend DeAnna and her little ones Ava & Brennan. The memory I'll carry with me of our day is of both girls riding on the carousel- it was one of their happiest moments together all summer long!
